Practice History
Openshaw Opticians was first established in 1946 by Robert Openshaw when he bought out Stansfield Jewellers (est. 1885)in Cleckheaton. Robert who was a pharmacist by profession, took a further diploma in optometry to become a chemist-based optician. Because Robert’s father was a jeweller, the new building became a jeweller as well as an optician.
In 1974, Openshaw Opticians was bought out by Phil Scott.
By 1975, Openshaw Opticians moved to 11 Central Arcade, Cleckheaton. The jewellery business still exists at the original location of 11 Bradford Rd, Cleckheaton
Finally, in 2006 Mr Scott sold Openshaw Opticians to DV Optical Ltd. Since then, Openshaw Opticians have been serving the local community.
2016 July Openshaw Opticians moved to Unit 4 16 Cheapside in our 70th year.
